On Tuesday, October 11, a small workshop concert of a special kind took place at Gesundbrunnen Elementary School. With the support of the Hardegen Foundation and “Jugend dirigiert” (www.jugend-dirigiert.de), students were able to try conducting in front of a small orchestra! Dr. Alexander Saier and Thomas Hennig from the Berlin State Music Council introduced the children to the basics of conducting and gave them tips on how to control the dynamics and tempo of the music through body language.
After shy beginnings, things really took off. A few brave young conductors from Class 5c tried their hand at coaxing sounds out of the musicians – and in the end, it was music! There was great applause from the staff.
The meeting was organized by teachers Wassila Abou-Chaker and Olga Kravets, and documented by the photographer of the Luna Park initiative, Giovanni Lo Curto.
