MOUNTAINS OF DESIRE tied directly to discourses that were being negotiated at the time on a regional, national, and international level. The piece was given special relevance and model character by the fact that it was developed in close exchange with the environment of the production site Gesundbrunnen-Grundschule – a neighborhood in Wedding that is largely “far removed” from the arts, many with a migration background and characterized to an above-average degree by poverty, lack of work and general lack of perspective. Work on “Mountains of Desire” began back in 2017 during an international meeting of young dance practitioners from Berlin and Athens, organized in cooperation with the Gesundbrunnen Primary School in Wedding and led by Kosmas Kosmopoulos, a Greek-born choreographer living in Berlin.
